About this tour

Georgian cuisine • mountain • culture • soviet charm • budget-friendly

Explore the lesser-travelled gems of the Caucasus with this 8-day adventure to Georgia! Fly from London to Kutaisi with a quick stopover in Budapest, and discover a country bursting with culture, dramatic scenery, and legendary hospitality—all on a shoestring budget. Whether you’re into mountain hikes, historic monasteries, Soviet-era architecture, or just want to eat your weight in khinkali, this trip is made for you.

Voyara Insider’s personal note: I came back from Kutaisi two weeks ago, and I fell in love with the place. It was part of a longer trip (visited Batumi, and then crossed the Turkish border and visited Trabzon), but I was able to visit Kutaisi twice within the same trip and it was incredible. It is very safe, walkable, there are things to do but it’s not overwhelming, and it’s VERY budget-friendly. So if you want a perfectly-organised trip from someone who has already done all the research for you, contact us through The Itinerary Architect and we’ll make your dream trip happen!

Highlights

  • Wander through Soviet-era streets and leafy parks in Kutaisi’s quirky centre.
  • Take a day trip to the stunning Prometheus Cave or hike the Okatse Canyon.
  • Visit the UNESCO-listed Gelati Monastery for some medieval-meets-Soviet vibes.
  • Gorge on khachapuri and khinkali like a local (and for pennies!)—my favourite restaurant is included in the 'Cafés and Restaurants' section.
  • Soak in Tskaltubo’s abandoned Soviet sanatoriums—creepy, cool, and very photogenic.

Wizz Discount Club Membership

‼️ We highly recommend getting a Wizz Discount Club Membership—we’ve had it for the last year, and it’s saved us tons of money on flights! For just €39.99 (≈£34.00) per year, you and one companion get access to exclusive discounts, with the best one being the 10€ off fares from 19.99€ (10€ is around £8.50).

Honestly, the membership pays for itself after just one or two trips—we’ve personally saved way more than the cost of the membership, and if you fly Wizz Air even just a couple of times a year, it’s a no-brainer!

Wizz Air has a very handy calculator which lets you see your savings if you were to become a member of their Discount Club (click here).

Boutique Hotel Tuta

Enjoy a comfortable stay in this upscale boutique hotel, located steps away from the city's main landmarks—perfect to relax, enjoy the sunset views, and explore this incredible city stress-free.

  • A short walk away from White Bridge and Colchis Fountain.
  • A few doors down from my favourite restaurant in Georgia (Doli).
  • 24-hour front desk, balcony, and breakfast available.
  • A fabulous 9.1/10 rating on Booking.com, with guests praising its great location and the modern apartments.

A double room is £49 per night (£294 total for 2 people, 6 nights) on Booking.com, which is an incredible deal.

Voyara's Insider Tip: We strongly recommend being part of Booking.com's Genius programme. It is completely free, and in the majority of cases you get a discount (the more stays you book, the larger the discount). For this deal, it brings our price down to £265 total (£44/night), which makes this deal even better. We're Level 3 Genius members, so the discount is larger, but even if you've never booked before, it will most likely give you around 10% off. Any discount is a good deal!

Voyara's Recommended Experiences:

  • Visit Bagrati Cathedral for panoramic views over Kutaisi and a peaceful atmosphere.
  • Stroll through Kutaisi’s Green Bazaar for a full-on sensory overload—perfect for cheap local snacks and souvenirs.
  • Take a marshrutka day trip to Martvili Canyon for dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and boat rides through glowing blue water.
  • Relax by the Rioni River in the evening—it's where locals gather and the sunsets hit different.
  • Spend an afternoon wandering around the Soviet-era amusement park in the city centre—it's nostalgic, weird, and a little magical.

Voyara's Local Insights:

  • Skip taxis—use Bolt instead; it’s way cheaper and works great in Kutaisi.
  • For just a couple of lari, you can hop on a marshrutka to Tskaltubo and explore its surreal, abandoned sanatoriums.
  • Carry cash—most local shops, taxis, and even some restaurants don’t take cards (you can withdraw from an ATM without fees).
  • If you're taking a train from Kutaisi to Tbilisi, book in advance online via railway.ge to avoid last-minute stress, and make sure it is the high-speed one from Kutaisi Airport station.
  • Many attractions are walkable from the centre, so skip car rentals and enjoy exploring Kutaisi on foot.

Voyara-approved Restaurants & Cafés

  • Doli is a go-to for casual vibes, local wines, and hearty, traditional Georgian food at very fair prices.
  • Palaty is a local favourite—come for the traditional Georgian food, stay for the live music and homemade wine.
  • Sisters serves up home-style Georgian dishes with a modern twist in a cosy, artsy setting.
  • Café Fleur has the best coffee in town and a garden patio that's perfect for a lazy afternoon.
  • Lado is a stylish wine bar where you can try local amber wines and regional cheeses with a view over the square.

Sometimes the best way of seeing a city's main attractions is doing it through booked tours and activities. We recommend you book these through Viator.com (4.3 stars on Trustpilot); we've used them countless times and they've never disappointed. Voyara Insider's personal note: Kutaisi (and Georgia as a whole) is a country I can never get tired of visiting again. Tbilisi is a unique capital, Batumi feels like a Dubai waiting for the spotlight... but Kutaisi is a city I could move to in a heartbeat. You'll find it to be easy to visit, full of history and sights to visit without feeling overwhelmed, incredible food for under a fiver, and some of the kindest people you'll ever meet. If you can take this trip, then I definitely recommend it; however, if you have more time, a trip around the Caucasus is something that shouldn't be missed—contact us through The Itinerary Architect to make it a reality.
