Lastly, Montevideo is my personal favourite today. Uruguay’s capital is an underrated South American gem, with a historic old town and its beautiful Rambla waterfront. You’ll discover their slow-paced culture and their incredible cuisine (their steaks are some of the best). Personally, I would spend 3-4 days here, then spend a couple of days at the charming Colonia del Sacramento (a beautiful coastal town), and then take a short ferry ride to Buenos Aires; I did this exact trip (but in the opposite order) last year and it was a highlight.
